Chiles Family,
Allow me to thank the students, the parents and the Chiles staff for a great start to the 2015-2016 school year. Your tremendous amount of support allowed for a smooth opening to the year. I’d like to give particular thanks to our students, teachers, staff, parents, PTO, volunteers, business partners, booster clubs, and the Chiles community. Without their support, Chiles would not be the successful school that it is. I would also like to give a special thanks to our guidance and scheduling departments at Chiles, along with our SAC (School Advisory Council). It is with their assistance and approval that we were able to distribute schedules earlier than ever on Orientation Friday.
As we approach the month of October it is imperative to stay informed of upcoming events. We will continue to disseminate information through the Chiles Listserv, Website, and Online Newspaper. Remember, anyone can subscribe to our Listserv simply by going to our website (see address below) and following the prompts. The Listserv is used primarily to notify its users of important announcements and dates. Another way to stay informed is to go to the Chiles web site http://www.leonschools.net/chiles. The website is updated weekly and contains a list of important programs, documents and dates that may interest you. You may also download the Leon County Schools (LCS) Schoolwires app from the Leon County Schools Website http://www.leonschools.net/ for your mobile or smart device to keep up with information from Chiles. On the app, please remember to choose Chiles as your primary school.
Two important events to remember in October include: PSAT testing and report card distribution. The PSAT will take place for 9th, 10th, and 11th grade students the morning of Wednesday, October 14th. The State of Florida allows all 10th grade students to take the PSAT free of charge. The district allows 9th and 11th grade students the opportunity to take the test for a small fee of $18.00. The deadline for 9th and 11th grade registration is TuesdayOctober 6th. If you’d like to register your 9th or 11th grade student, please contact Mrs. Gooden in the Student Activities Office. If you have a 10th grader there is no need to register him/her. The first nine weeks grading period ends on Thursday, October 15th. Report cards will be issued on Wednesday, October 28th. Please refer to the school calendar to review these and all activities.
I hope the month of October goes well for everyone and don’t hesitate to contact the administration if we can be of assistance.
Joseph L. Burgess
Principal
