Chilling Weather? How About Chiles ’ Chili?

Last Thursday, December 3rd, Chiles decided to bring back its Chili

Cook-Off, hosted by

our very own SGA! Visitors could purchase a punch card for just

five dollars to sample chili

homemade by Chiles

clubs! People could then vote for their favorite chili by

placing their punch

card into the corresponding club

s envelope stationed on the fence. What better way to bra

ce the

relentless cold than to treat yourself to some warm chili s

amples? Among the clubs present was

the Garden Club, Project Ocean, FCA, TSA, and the Pinter

est Club. Every club member put their

heart into those piping hot chili pots!

We took the opportunity to interview a familiar face, Nathan W

aller, for his thoughts on this

creative event.

Q: What gave you guys the idea to have a chili cook-off?

A:

We brought it back to get [people more] involved in school fu

nctions.

Q: So, would you like to share your recipe with us?

A:

I was in charge of making SGA

s chili. I decided to put in some beans, along with some

italian spices. Try it; it

s good!

Q: Mmm.. Very unique! Does this event support a specific cause?

A:

Yes; all proceeds go towards our clubs

funds.

I, along with a few other friends, decided to taste-test so

me of the chili for myself and

was pleasantly surprised with the intriguing flavor combina

tions each club had to offer. Overall,

I found that amongst all the chili, the top two I thoroughly

enjoyed were Student Ambassador

s

vegan chili, which consisted of black pinto beans, corn, an

d soy crumbs, and Pinterest Club

s

chili, which included dry mustard, onions, and ground meat. However

, the effort put into making

this event successful by each club was extraordinary! The

atmosphere was very lively; Christmas

music streamed through the air, gleaming lights, like stars, we

re strewn across the tables, and the

smiles painted on visitors faces as they indulged in a spoonfu

l of chili were priceless. I certainly

feel remorse for those who decided not to attend! Good job, SGA;

we

re expecting many more

great things from you!
